Description

Clevedge House is a building that dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, featuring a complex structure from several periods. It has a nearly symmetrical facade with two storeys, except for the south wing, which has one storey. The main (east) front has a total of 1.3.1 windows, which are early 19th-century additions. The roof is covered with red tiles and has brick dentil eaves that extend over a central gable. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with a raised band at the first floor and a plinth; some blurred header panels are present on the south side of the centre. The first floor and ground floor of the north wing feature sashes in exposed frames, while the rest of the windows are leaded casements, including one old leaded casement on the first floor of the north wing. The doorway is framed by a solid canopy supported on carved brackets and features a six-panelled door. The rear (west) elevation indicates an earlier origin, with an exposed timber frame at the centre, which includes a three-storey gable above a lower brick wall. The north and south sides have catslide roofs, with two conjoined gabled outshots extending from each side. The building also has painted brickwork, three hipped modern dormers, and a gabled dormer with casements. An old lead cistern with embossed patterns and the letters D T H is also present.
