Description
Great Rye Farmhouse is a building dating from the 17th century with early 19th-century alterations. It features a symmetrical facade from the later date, consisting of two storeys and an attic with three windows. The roof is covered in red tiles and includes three modern dormers with hipped roofs, along with brick dentil eaves. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond, with rubbed flat arches and a plinth. The windows are modern sashes. There is a Gothic style porch with curving barge-boards and octagonal columns. A large chimney stack is located at the south end of the building. The internal framing suggests an earlier origin, which is still partially visible at the rear, along with old doors. One room contains 17th-century panelling that is said to have come from Old Basing House.
