Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building located on Rowner Lane. It dates from the 13th century, with significant alterations made in the late 19th century and again in 1965. The church features a medieval interior that includes a nave and chancel, a north aisle, and a chapel, all with surviving arcades, a chancel arch, and a piscina. In 1874, the north aisle was widened to create a new nave, and the chapel was converted into the chancel, resulting in a stone coursed rubble exterior. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there is a western bell turret. Inside, there are several notable wall tablets and a Jacobean tomb. Attached to the west end is a large extension, designed in a modern style by Potter and Hare, which serves as a new church with a bell.
