Description
Meoncross Boys School, formerly known as Catisfield House, is an early 18th-century L-shaped house located on the northwest side of Catisfield Lane. The building features a rendered facade with a wide modillion eaves cornice that includes egg and dart moulding between the modillions. It has a hipped tiled roof with lead ridges and stands two storeys tall with an attic. The main section of the house is symmetrically designed, showcasing three windows and three pedimented dormers, with the outer pediments being segmental. A modern glazed entrance leads to the street, featuring a six-panelled door with raised and fielded panels.
The southern recessed wing has two windows, one of which is blank, along with one pedimented dormer. All windows are sashes with glazing bars. The rear or western facade includes three French casements on each floor and a central two-storey bow with a domed dormer above. A delicate iron balustrade adorns the verandah, which has a tiled roof. There are two additional dormers, while the wing and buildings on the north side have been demolished and replaced by modern structures. Meoncross Boys School, along with Littlecroft, Elm Cottage, and Nos 1 to 5 (consecutive) form a group of local interest, which also includes the Post Office on Fishers Hill.
