Description
St Paul's House is a house that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of brick and tile and features a refaced timber-framed structure. The front elevation, which faces southeast, is regular in design, comprising two storeys and an attic, with three lower windows and two upper windows, one of which is blank. The roof is plain, and the walls are built in Flemish bond with a plinth and rubbed flat arches over the ground floor openings. There is a slightly projecting entrance bay, which may have originally been central. The windows are sashes set in exposed frames, and the upper part of the west side bay has been filled with a brick panel that contains a carved figure of a saint from around 1900, positioned on a stone bracket beneath a moulded cornice supported by brackets. The porch features two columns and two pilasters with simple Greek-style mouldings, and it has a 20th-century half-glazed door. The northeast elevation reveals a rear wing attached to the gable end of the main block, with much of it displaying exposed framing, some of which is tile-hung, along with brick infill. There is also a later 18th-century extension with brick walls in Flemish bond, featuring ground floor cambered openings, leaded casements, and a six-panelled door with four glazed panels.
