Description
The model dairy, located at the rear of 40 High Street in Alton, is a small, octagonal, single-storey building. It features an ornamental exterior, typical of dairies, and is decorated internally to suit its function. The structure is constructed of glazed white brick with glazed brown brick panels and topped with a conical thatched roof. It has a wide, central, flush panelled door, flanked by two-leaf timber casements, all set beneath cambered arches.
Inside, the dairy is lined with white tiles and has a decorative rinceau patterned frieze. Slate slab shelves are supported on timber brackets, and the roof is horizontally boarded. The floor is made of black and red tiles, with a drain located in the center. The window catches are designed in the shape of a cow’s horn.
