Description

This barn, located 30 meters west of Court Farm, dates back to the 16th century. It features a timber-framed interior set within concrete block walls, with some sections made of brick and flint, and a roof covered in corrugated asbestos cement. The barn has six bays with an aisled design and a wide entrance on the eastern upper half-hipped end. The western gable is plain and adjoins a lower building that is not of special interest. Each long wall has five galvanized steel windows, while the blocked west gable wall is constructed of brickwork. The entrance showcases partly exposed timber framework with brick and flint panels beneath a weather-boarded gable, and it includes a wide opening fitted with a sliding corrugated steel door.

Inside, the barn remains largely intact with a concrete floor. The west gable wall is built just beyond the last frame, indicating a likely loss of a final half-hipped bay. The main posts are jowelled and support strutted main ties that carry queen posts and a heavy collar. The posts are strutted to the aisle plate, with some wind bracing present in bays two, three, and four from the west. There is one main purlin and one aisle purlin, with the main posts set on stone posts and spur walls made of concrete block, tied back to plate level. The rafters are early in style. Although the barn has been altered externally with 20th-century work, its interior has been excellently preserved.
