Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade II* listed building located on Overton Church Road. It has medieval origins, with restorations carried out in 1853, 1897, and 1908. The nave dates back to around 1180 and features three arcades, extending to the west by one wider bay that replaced a former tower. The church has replacement and extended aisles from the 14th century, a chancel from the 13th century, a modern vestry, and a west tower built in 1908 to replace a 15th-century tower. The structure has a tile roof that extends over the aisles and vestry, with walls made of flint and stone rubble, accented with stone dressings. The aisles have Perpendicular-style two-light windows, while the chancel features taller traceried lights. Inside, notable features include the arcade, circular columns, later columns, and a medieval folding south door. The church was restored and re-roofed in 1853, and the 1908 tower is constructed of ashlar with lower flint panels and topped with a shingled broach spire added in 1913.
