Description

The oasthouse to the northwest of Bird in Eye Farmhouse is a 19th-century square stone building with a slate roof, which still retains its cowl. Inside, there is an intact flue that winds around the walls of the kiln. Fresh air enters through intakes near the floor, where it is heated indirectly by the hot flue wall before rising through the hop-drying floor. This oasthouse is noted for being the only fresh air oast still surviving in Sussex, making it technically rare.
