Description
Leyswood is a building constructed in 1868-1869, designed by architect Norman Shaw. It is the remains of an important house, with part of it having been demolished. What still stands includes the gatehouse and two sides of a courtyard, all in a Gothic style. The building is two storeys high, with a ground floor made of red brick and stone dressings, and the upper floor is tile-hung. It features a tiled roof with a castellated parapet and gable adorned with metal finials. The gate tower has a Gothic arch and two cross windows above, along with a stair turret. To the left, there is a kitchen court enclosed by a crenellated wall. The right side has a one-storey billiard room topped with battlements. Inside the courtyard, there are mullioned and transomed windows. The outer wall of the house serves as a low retaining wall, with a bay window at the corner that has a hipped roof and a gilded ceiling inside.
