Description
This barn, located approximately 120 metres south-west of Ludlay, dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed flint with red brick dressings and features cart-entry bays adorned with decorative blue-brick headers, topped by a plain tile roof.
On the yard side, the barn has five bays, with the two on the left being narrower. It has a plinth and offset buttresses at both ends, as well as flanking the central cart-entry bay, which contains a hinged double board door that replaces a former sliding door (the iron runners for the sliding door are still visible on the plinth and below the eaves). The brick sections beside the door and the buttresses feature blue-brick bands on the upper half, which is the most visible part from a distance, above the yard walls. There are slit vents in the outer bays, arranged in a three-level pattern. On the right side of the cart-entry bay, there is a quadrant brick drinking trough. The roof is half-hipped.
The rear of the barn has lower eaves and a shorter plinth, with offset buttresses as previously described. The cart-entry features a side-sliding door made of corrugated iron. On the left side, there is a boarded-up loading door flanked by slit vents, while the right side has a smaller loading door also flanked by slit vents. A corrugated iron lean-to is present but is not of special interest.
Inside, the barn features brick construction with concave corners. The rear arcade is supported by jowelled wooden posts on brick stylobates, with arch braces leading up to tie-beams. The roof structure includes collared principal rafter trusses, through purlins, long straight windbraces, and a plank ridge-piece.
