Description

The Old Cottage is a 17th century or earlier timber-framed building. It originally had herring-bone brick nogging and was once painted, now covered by a hipped tiled roof. A gabled projection forms a porch in the centre of the building. The first floor of the porch is jettied and supported by elaborate carved brackets, with carved strips attached to the bressummer and side uprights. Further carved caryatid strips are located above and below the centre first floor window, on each side of the doorway, and carved shields are positioned above and below the window. The building features iron-studded double doors and modern casement windows. It is two storeys high and has three windows.
