Description

The war memorial in Forest Row was built in 1920 and designed by sculptor E G Gillick, funded by public subscription. This sandstone structure stands about 18 feet tall and features a tapering pier with a moulded plinth and a roll-moulded cornice. On two sides above the cornice, there are plain crosses beneath a crocket, while the other sides display carved young angels holding blank tablets. The cornice at the top of the pier is inscribed with the dates 1914, 1918, 1939, and 1945. The plinth bears the inscription "IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF FOREST ROW WHO DIED FOR ENGLAND IN THE GREAT WARS," and both the pier and part of the plinth list the names of the Fallen.
