Description
The Old Vicarage is an 18th-century building located on the north side of Church Square, built on the site of a 14th-century structure where the dramatist John Fletcher was born in 1579. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring three windows and two dormers. It has been slightly altered by a non-recent cement refacing. The wooden eaves cornice has been renewed, and it has a tiled roof. The entrance boasts a good doorway with fluted Doric columns, an entablature, a semi-circular fanlight, and a six-panel moulded door. Flanking the doorway are unusual 19th-century cemented bay windows, each with a semi-domed top and caps at both ends. These bay windows contain three lights, with the center light being flat and having a segmental head, while the outer lights are curved with flat heads. All glazing bars are missing.
