Description

The Strand Gate is a scheduled Ancient Monument and one of the medieval gates of the town, dating from the late 13th century. It features four round turrets connected to the North and South by side walls, and to the East and West by two archways, each with a portcullis groove. Above the arches, there was originally a solid section with stone vaulting, which has since fallen away. The structure includes a parapet and loop windows.
