Description
The lychgate at No. 5 Church Street in the Old Town dates from the 18th century and is part of a larger building that has an earlier structure beneath it. It is two storeys high and features three windows. The exterior is made of painted brick, with a brick stringcourse consisting of two plain courses and one course of cogging. The eaves cornice is present, and the building has a steep tiled roof. The doorway is topped with a flat hood and has a door made up of six moulded and fielded panels, with the top two panels being glazed. This lychgate is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 5 (consecutive), No 5A, St Peter's Church, and Nos 6 to 15 (consecutive), along with Rimswell Cottage.
