Description
House now converted to two dwellings with rear and side extensions; Frog House to right and Bear House to left. Bear House was formerly listed as Sunnyside. The building dates from the early 17th century with early to mid 19th century alterations, and late 20th century alterations and extensions. The 17th century timber-framed range was rewalled externally in brick with a rendered front added in the 19th century. The right-hand gable is tile hung. The plain tiled roof has decorative crested ridge tiles to the main range. A 19th century brick gable end stack is positioned at the right-hand gable; the former gable end stack to the left has been demolished. The building is two storeys tall.
The main range has three windows on the front, with mid-19th century or similar replacement 20th century sashes on both floors, each sash having two vertical glazing bars. The former entrance doorway between the second and third sashes on the front left is now infilled. Frog House is now entered via a late 20th century single storey porch added to the right-hand gable end. Bear House is entered from a 20th century open porch in the angle of the left-hand gable end and a 20th century rear extension.
Frog House occupies two-thirds of the 17th century main range. The interior retains exposed 17th century timber-framing and exposed beams with stopped chamfers. Bear House was not inspected internally but is included as an integral part of the original range. The 20th century extensions to the rear and sides of both dwellings are not of special interest.
