Description
Rye Windmill is a smock-type windmill, dating to around 1578. The ground and first floors are constructed of tarred brick, while the upper section is clad in white weather boarding. The mill is now a shell, having been entirely destroyed by fire in 1930. It was rebuilt to fulfil the terms of the lease under which it was held, although it is not a complete replica of the original. The rebuilt structure contains no machinery and only one floor division, which serves as a storehouse and garage. The fantail is a dummy feature.
