Description

Steyne House is a house and shop, with a front section dating from the mid-19th century and a rear wing likely built in the late 17th century. The front of the building is stuccoed, with a tiled roof and brick chimney stacks at each end. It is two storeys high with attics, and has three windows on the front elevation. The attics have two flat dormers with vertical glazing bars. The first floor has two sash windows with horns. The ground floor features a central doorcase with a flat cemented cornice supported by brackets, and a six-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above. A three-light canted bay window is on the left side, and a four-light bay with a shop front is on the right. Inside the shop is a built-in cupboard with a serpentine front. A stick staircase and doors from the period are also present. At the rear is a rendered gable with a sliding sash window, which is probably of late 17th century origin.
