Description

The Beeches is an 18th-century house, altered in the 19th century. Originally, it had five windows and two dormers, later extended to the north with the addition of two window bays. The house is stuccoed and has a moulded wooden eaves cornice and a slate roof. Original glazing bars remain on the first floor. A verandah with trellised iron columns and a domed canopy is centrally located on the ground floor. A larger bay was added to the south of the verandah, and a two-story projection to the north. A small porch with fluted Ionic columns faces the garden to the east. George Wigney of Wigney and Sons’ Brewery, Brighton, lived at the property between 1825 and 1835.
