Description
The Stag Inn is a building that likely dates from the late 16th century. It features a timber frame structure with a plastered front from the mid-18th century, which includes a parapet and tile-hung gable ends. The building has steep tiled roofs and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a basement. It is five windows wide, with sash windows that mostly retain their wide glazing bars and have exposed casings throughout, along with moulded cills.
There are twin central doorcases that have fielded-panel reveals and flat moulded hoods supported by three large consoles. The doors are glazed and fielded-panel, and there are double-flight stone steps leading up to the entrance, which are flanked by iron railings with turned newels. A flat-roof dormer is also present. At the rear, there is a brick-encased timber frame wing with a hipped roof.
Inside, the main part of the building and the rear wing feature moulded ceiling beams with run-out stops. Originally, the first floor oversailed the ground floor at the front, but this has been underbuilt; however, carved brackets remain visible inside. All the listed buildings on All Saints' Street form a group.
