Description

This is a timber-framed, brick, and plaster building, reputedly the home of the mother of Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell, dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. The building has a tiled roof. It is two storeys high. The left end of the first floor overhangs, with exposed floor joists and close-set studding. Below this overhang is a wooden doorway with a four-centred arch. To the right, the building is timber-framed with large plaster panels; the ground floor is painted brick and features a small gabled dormer with a fire insurance plaque. Modern casement windows, some with one, two, or five lights and leaded panes, are present. The building is documented in the County of Sussex Archaeological Collection Volume XIV and the National Monuments Record. It forms a group with other listed buildings on All Saints' Street.
