Description

The Redoubt Fort was built in 1806 as part of the same series of defenses as the Martello Tower. It is an unusual structure consisting of two concentric circular brick walls with a dry moat between them. The inner wall is crenellated and features a raised platform behind it, beneath which are a series of arches or recesses that serve as a combined magazine and barracks. In the center, there is a circular grassed open space. During the Second World War, the fort was used for defense purposes again, and some openings in the inner wall were reinforced with the construction of pill boxes and lookouts.
