Description

HIGH STREET, OLD TOWN 1. 1065 Ye Lambe Hotel (formerly listed as The Lamb Inn) TV 5999 SE 4/23 27.5.49.

II

  1. A C16 timber framed 2 storey building which has been spoiled by refronting with roughcast between the beams, the replacement of some of the beams and the insertion of modern windows on the South front. West front still retains its character except that some of the windows here also are modern and the plaster has been removed. The 1st floor overhangs. Red tiled roof. The most interesting part of the building is a medieval undercroft or vaulted chamber with ribs and a central boss. This is said to date from the Early English Period. The entrance to this is on the West side of the building through a coved recess supported by an upright beam. Flat stone archway. Original wooden door.
