Description
The Lamb Inn, now known as Ye Lambe Hotel, is a 16th-century timber-framed building located on High Street in Old Town. The structure has been altered, with roughcast applied between the beams, some beams replaced, and modern windows inserted on the south front. However, the west front retains more of its original character, despite some modern windows and the removal of plaster. The first floor overhangs, and the building features a red tiled roof. A notable feature is the medieval undercroft or vaulted chamber, which includes ribs and a central boss, believed to date from the Early English Period. Access to this chamber is through a coved recess on the west side, supported by an upright beam and featuring a flat stone archway with an original wooden door.
