Description

The Royal Stag Public House is a building that dates from the mid-19th century, situated on the north side of The Green in Datchet. It is built on the framework of an early 15th-century hall house at the rear, with the last three bays likely having been a byre originally. There is also an 18th-century timber frame extension on the left side at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high.

The front features a hipped slate roof and is rendered and colourwashed. On the first floor, there are two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in reveals with cills. To the left, there is a three-light splayed bay window with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a double-hung sash window with sidelights and glazing bars. There are two doors located under pedimented porches supported by plain columns.

The rear, which dates from the 16th century, has an old tile roof and plastered colourwashed infill between the frame. It features Yorkshire casements with glazing bars and four Gothic arched casements on the first floor, two of which have central wood mullions. A modern glazed door and sidelights are located beneath the bay window on the left side. Inside, there are a few exposed timbers.
