Description
Nos. 85 and 86 on High Street are a mid-15th century hall house that has been altered in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The building is now divided into two small houses and features a timber frame that is encased in roughcast. It has a slate gabled roof and a rectangular plan consisting of two framed bays. The structure stands two storeys tall and has two corniced chimneys, one located on the ridge and the other at the rear, both topped with clay pots.
The front facing the road has two bays with three-light windows and mid-20th century metal casement windows that include diamond leading. There are two wooden entrance doors, one on the left and another to the right of centre.
Inside, two cruck frames are visible on both floors. A large beam on the ground floor in the former service area features chamfers and broach stops. Some original roof timbers remain, showing signs of soot.
