Description
The Old Bluecoat School is a historic chapel, now functioning as a shop, founded in 1304 and dedicated to St. Thomas. The building features a flint and brick plinth, rendered with stone dressings, and has an old tile roof. It consists of two bays, with north and south windows that have moulded surrounds, returned hood moulds, and wooden mullions and transoms. There is a blocked doorway at the east end of the south side, which has a two-centred arch and a hood mould with square stops. The west end includes a gabled porch with a two-centred arch and a hood mould with square stops, flanked by 14th-century canopied niches, and a small blind arch in the gable end above. The interior features a roof from the 19th century, except for one older tie beam.
