Description
The Pearce Memorial is a Grade II listed memorial located at the south end of Southampton Old Cemetery, erected in 1861 and sculpted by Richard Cockle Lucas, who lived from 1800 to 1883. This memorial is made of marble and stands about 3 metres tall. It features three large angels, dressed in classical attire, standing back-to-back. Their slender wings are connected, and they hold a large draped urn above their heads. The angels are positioned on a polygonal pedestal with panelled sides that include inscriptions. The cemetery itself was designed by J.C. Loudon and is recognized for its historic significance, being included in the Register of Parks and Gardens at grade II. The memorial is notable for its impressive Victorian monumental sculpture and its context within this historically important cemetery.
