Description

The Star and Garter Public House dates to the late 17th or early 18th century. It is constructed of painted brick with an old tile roof, coped on the right-hand side and featuring a chimney. The building is two storeys high and has four windows. These are sash windows, with the ground floor window on the left retaining its original thick glazing bars and two-panel shutters. The outer first-floor windows are narrower and a large central sign board panel is present. A mid-19th century addition was made to the ground floor on the right, featuring a three-light segmental bar window with modern glazing and original panelled pilaster strips. The entrance is sheltered by a door hood. A brick band runs along the first floor, interrupted in the centre. Four tie-beam ends are visible below the eaves. Two dormers have been added to the roof.
