Description

This is an early 19th century shop, altered in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The main, west-facing elevation is stucco-rendered, while the rear is exposed red brick, and the roof is covered in felt. It’s a three-storey terraced building with an additional attic storey, containing a shopfront on the ground floor and flats above. Two later extensions are attached to the rear.

The main elevation is a single bay wide and three storeys high, with a fourth attic storey. A recessed central portion is framed by fielded piers. A late 20th century shopfront features a glazed doorway and large display windows, with a further half-glazed doorway providing access to the flats above. A plain frieze and balustrade separates the ground and first floors. The first floor has a tripartite sash window with a central six-over-six pane and two-over-two side lights, set in an architrave and surmounted by an entablature. Above this is a six-over-six sash window. Two large Ionic pilasters rise through the first and second floors to support a heavy entablature, above which is an attic level with a squat tripartite window, cornice and parapet. The building has a flat roof with two skylights. The rear elevation has a single bay of windows from the first floor upwards. Two later rear extensions, one and two storeys high, are also present.
