Description

East Cosham House is an 18th-century house, altered in the 20th century, and now used as a residential home for the elderly. The house is built of painted brickwork, with a slated hipped roof. A section of the roof is concealed to the left bay, and there is a right extension. Brick stacks are located to the left and right of the hipped roof, and at the rear of the left bay.

The house has two storeys and four bays. A stone paved verandah extends across the ground floor, featuring a delicate arched wooden trellis supported by four fluted timber columns flanked by patterned trellis uprights, and a tented roof. A recessed four-panelled door sits to the right of the façade, with the upper two panels glazed in a pointed-head design, and panelled reveals. To the left and right of the entrance are rectangular bays, each with a tripartite window consisting of a central eight-pane sash, and four-pane flanking sashes with narrow glazing bars. A round-headed Gothic window with a pointed-head sash is located on the left and right extensions. The first floor has four twelve-pane sashes, each with attached shutters and set under a painted flat-gaugled brick arch. A coped parapet tops the building. A 20th-century one-storey extension is situated to the left, and a two-storey extension is to the rear.
