Description
The Prince Monument is a chest tomb located approximately 23 meters west of the southwest corner of the Church of St Andrew in Farlington, Portsmouth. It dates from around 1820 and is constructed of ashlar stone. Each corner features recessed fluted and splayed pilasters with moulded caps and bases set on a plinth. The lid of the tomb has an incised Greek Key design, and the weathered top slab is set back from the edge. The north long face of the tomb includes a projecting panel with the inscription: "Mr Richard Prince senior died 15th December 1817 aged 70 years. Catherine, Wife of Mr Richard Prince who died 24th March 1826 aged 71 years and 10 days. Excelled by none." Some ivy and vegetation are growing on the monument.
