Description
This is an early 19th century house, likely originally a small public house. It is located on Havant Street, Portsmouth, and includes the corner section facing Clock Street. The building is constructed of painted brick, with a plain tile hipped roof.
The main facade has two storeys and three bays. At the junction with Clock Street, the entrance is splayed across the corner, featuring double bowed doors and a blind overlight set within an early to mid-19th century public house front. Flanking the doors are windows with panelled risers, all set within Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a dentil cornice over both fronts. To the left of the entrance, a plain flush door is followed by a large 10-pane sash window and a smaller sash window, both under flat brick arches. Further to the left is a boarded door, a small 20th century window, and a 20th century door set within a garden wall. On the first floor, two 8-pane sashes are situated under flat, gauged brick arches, and a narrow sash is set under a cambered arch to the left.
The right-hand return elevation, facing Clock Street, features a shallow rectangular oriel with a wide 6-pane sash at the front and very narrow side sashes, topped by a frieze and cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
