Description
Olney Park Farmhouse is a 17th-century building that was altered and extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features an old tile roof with stone coped gables on fluted kneelers. Originally T-shaped, the plan is now rectangular, with the main wing running east to west and two storeys plus an attic. There are three two-storey gabled wings on the north side. The building has two brick chimney stacks on the ridge and one large stone lateral stack with paired ashlar shafts on a rubble base.
The south front has four bays, with the three on the right dating from the 17th century and the left one from the early 19th century. The entrance is located in the second bay from the right and features a doorway with moulded jambs, a moulded panel on the doorhead, and a dripstone above. There is a single sash window above the entrance and three tripartite sash windows on each floor. An attic window is located in the east gable, and there is a datestone on the central gable of the north elevation, which is probably from the 17th century but has a reset date of 1829. A small single-storey stone wing is situated at the northwest corner.
Inside, the farmhouse retains original beams and features two moulded oak doorways on the first floor. A 17th-century stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and carved spandrels, now located in the entrance hall, is believed to have been brought from another house. The farmhouse is said to have been built as a hunting lodge for Olney Park, which has been a property of the Duchy of Lancaster since the 15th century.
