Description
Hanslope Park House is a country house built for Basil Brent at the end of the 17th century, with some alterations. The building has three storeys and is constructed of ashlar stone, featuring a plinth, strings at the floor levels, a moulded and bracketed wood cornice, and a hipped slate roof.
The northeast front is U-shaped, with a central section that has five bays. It includes segmental headed sash windows, which have altered glazing, and a 19th-century rectangular central porch with an arched opening, cornice, and blocking course. The flanking wings each have two bays on the upper floors and a three-light sash window in the center of the ground floor. The second-floor windows are blocked, and the inner sashes on the first floor are also blocked, although the three-light sash in the right-hand wing retains its glazing. The southwest front features five widely spaced bays that slightly project.
Inside, the staircase is made of oak and has delicate turned balusters, with three balusters to each tread, a moulded handrail, Doric column newels, and cut spandrels. The hall is divided by a Doric screen, which has been filled in with partitions.
