Description
The Comport and Baker tombs, located 5 yards to the south of the Church of St. James, consist of a row of ten children's body blocks, along with four footstones, one headstone, and three larger body blocks. These tombs date from the early 19th century and are made of stone. They are inscribed to the children of the Comport and Baker families and are locally referred to as 'Pip's Graves', as they are believed to have inspired the graves depicted on the first page of Charles Dickens' 'Great Expectations'.
