Description
This is a reinforced concrete sentry post, also known as building 219, located in the eastern part of the Lodge Hill site. It is presumed to have been positioned to observe approaches to the eastern gate rail entrance. The structure is approximately 2.5 meters high and has a polygonal shape with eleven sides and a shallow domed roof. The walls are about 30 centimeters thick and built in sections of approximately 60 centimeters. The roof is constructed using a corrugated former. Access is provided through a small, heavy, hatched south door made of reinforced concrete, featuring a steel bar handle and external hinges. There are five observation apertures on alternate sides, which could also have served as small arms embrasures for handguns. The interior retains remnants of metal sheet lining.
