Description
This is a barn located to the south of West Court in Shorwell, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble and has a roof that is now covered in corrugated asbestos. The barn features gable ends with coping and kneelers, as well as two tiers of triangular ventilation slits and a deep plinth. It has ten bays and originally included two double cart entrances. A modern barn has been built onto its side. The dates 1822 and 1899 are carved on the tie beams, indicating that it was likely reroofed around 1822. The roof structure includes angled queen struts, tie beams, collar beams, two tiers of through purlins, and diagonal tension braces.
