Description
The Frank James Memorial Hospital is a purpose-built hospital from 1903, designed in a Dutch style. It is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. The building features a central block with two projecting wings. The central block is one storey high with attics, adorned with four dormers that have wooden bargeboards, and a large central gable also with wooden bargeboards. This gable includes a plaque with an inscription and carved figures, topped by a square cupola that has a sundial, lantern, and a weathervane featuring a gilded ship. The central block has a four-centred archway. The projecting wings are two storeys high with attics, made of red brick and featuring end gables that are crowstepped. Each wing has five gabled dormers and clustered, moulded brick chimneystacks. A verandah surrounds the ground floor on all sides.
