Description
Luccombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that consists of two sections. The right side is likely from the 17th century and was altered in the 18th century, while the left side is probably from the 18th century. It is constructed of Isle of Wight stone rubble and features a tiled roof that is hipped at the left end, along with three brick chimneystacks. The building has two storeys and five windows, including one modern penticed three-light dormer. Most of the windows are 20th century casements, but there is one 18th-century twelve-paned sash window with a keystone in a stone architrave on the ground floor, along with some original architraves, one of which has a hood moulding. There is a gabled weather porch on the right side and a doorcase with a plain 18th-century stone architrave and keystone to the left. The right side has a deep plinth. Inside, the ground floor room on the right side features an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer and stop-chamfered beams with run-out stops. Historically, this manor was granted to the Abbey of Quarr upon its establishment in 1132 and served as a grange for the Abbey until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536.
