Description

The Abbey Hotel is a terraced building, likely consisting of six houses, that dates back to around 1851. It is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and features five storeys above a basement, including dormer windows and a three-window range. The front of the building has full-height and almost full-width segmental bays.

The ground-floor openings have been stripped of most mouldings and altered in some areas. The first- and second-floor windows are flat-arched, with some blocked. The first-floor windows are adorned with eared architraves that extend into a pediment, featuring a tympanum filled with moulded floral ornament. This floor also has balconies supported by slim pedimented piers and cast-iron railings decorated with quatrefoil designs. The second-floor windows have bracketed sills and eared architraves that lead up into a segmental pediment. The third-floor windows are basket-arched, with bracketed sills but no architrave. A dentil cornice and blocking course were renewed around 1990. The interior has not been inspected. The date information comes from the hotel owner.
