Description
These are two early to mid-19th century terraced houses with shops. The shop fronts were likely added around the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco, with an asbestos slate roof on number 47 and a 20th-century tile roof on number 48.
Each house has three storeys and one window. The shop entrances are set back between the windows, and the house entrances are to the side. The frontages are framed by Doric pilasters supporting a fascia. The house entrances have original overlights and panelled doors. The shop front of number 47 has been altered, while that of number 48 remains almost completely original, featuring slim cast-iron balusters supporting the windows.
Canted bays were added to the first floor, circa 1850, with sash windows. The bay at number 48 is slightly recessed. The second-floor windows are flat-arched; those at number 47 have sashes from circa 1850, while those at number 48 have original sashes with margin lights. A stack is located on the party wall between the two houses. The interiors were not inspected.
