Description
This property comprises two houses, numbers 1 and 2 Church Road, built in the late 16th to early 17th century. Originally constructed as a single two-storey house, it features a substantial chimney located to the right of the centre. The original staircase was positioned close to this chimney. Internal structural features include tie-beam and collar beam roof trusses, and a brick axial stack, originally laid in English bond but rebuilt in the 1930s. The hall displays late 16th to early 17th century style stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
The south front is two storeys high with four window bays, featuring a plain tile roof with a hip and a small gable at the east end. A rebuilt chimney stack is present. The front elevation is rendered, and incorporates 2-light wooden casement windows, likely dating to the 19th century or later, and a gabled timber porch. The east return is weatherboarded, while the west return features tile hanging above and weatherboarding below.
Numbers 1 to 4 Church Road are designated as a group of buildings with significance, alongside the Lychgate, the Church of St Dunstan, Lumley Chapel, the boundary wall of the former West Cheam Manor House, Church Farm Lane, and Church Farm House on Springclose Lane.
