Description
The walls and railings surrounding Hampton Court Palace date from the Tudor period and later. They encompass all sides of the Palace Gardens, including the railings on the eastern side of the Fountain Garden and the northern side of the Pavilion Terrace. The walls are also present to the south, west, and north of the Palace gardens, as well as within these areas. Notable features include the Garden Wall to the west of the Broad Walk, which dates from around 1700 and was designed by Christopher Wren. This wall is made of brick, with piers of banded stone and brick. There is a late 17th-century brick wall that separates the Privy and Tudor Gardens, and the Terrace Walls to the Sunk Garden, which have Tudor origins, were remodeled by William II. Additionally, there is a Tudor Wall made of brick and buttressed, located between the Wilderness and the Tilt yard, along with 18th-century walls within the Tilt yard.
