Description

The Privy Garden at Hampton Court features late 17th century screens designed by Tijou at the south end, along with associated walls. The railings consist of 12 wrought-iron panels created by Tijou, showcasing intricate scrollwork, carbouches, grotesque faces, swags, and inset panels with various motifs including thistles, monograms, roses, harps, and others. These panels are flanked by openwork piers topped with crowns. Originally intended for the Fountain Garden, they were erected in the Privy Garden in 1701, removed to the Victoria and Albert Museum in the mid-19th century, and restored in 1902.
