Description
The London Regional Transport Station, including the adjacent shops on either side, was built in 1926 and designed by Charles Holden. It is constructed from Portland stone and features a symmetrical design on a corner site, showcasing a vertical stripped classical style. The station has a tall ticket hall at the corner with a triple entrance below, flanked by lower single-storey ranges of shops. The facade is curved and includes three square-headed entrances with stepped jambs and a cantilevered canopy. Above the entrances, there is a tall clerestory divided into three sections by pairs of pilasters with globular capitals, featuring the London Transport motif in roundels. The clerestory is adorned with vertical metal glazing bars and inset stained glass displaying the London Transport motif. This station is part of the extension of the City and South London Underground Railway from 1926.
