Description
The Former Granada Cinema, located at 154-166 Clarence Street, is a cinema building from 1939, designed by George Coles with an interior by Komisarjevsky. The structure is made of brick and features a two-storey facade. The ground floor has plate glass replacement entrance doors beneath a cantilevered canopy. On the first floor, there are three arched windows, with three oculi above them. To the right, there is a rectangular tower that has later 20th-century lettering. The interior is notable for its fine details, including a double-height entrance hall with a heavy coffered ceiling and triple arch motifs on the walls. The main auditorium features a plastered proscenium flanked by triple arch motifs and decorative grilles that curve to the ceiling, along with original light fittings.
