Description
The Former Hawker Aircraft Experimental Shop, known as Siddeley House, is a building constructed in 1933 for Hawker Aircraft. It is now used as offices. The structure features a steel frame clad in brick and has a flat roof, standing three storeys tall. The design includes corner towers made of red brick that are set forward, flanking a central entrance lined with engineering brick. A late 20th-century partially glazed entrance has replaced the former rolling entrance but remains within the original opening. The building has small paned metal framed windows and includes a rear stairwell and lift shaft. Although the interior has been partitioned, the steel framed structure is still intact, and there is a hoist and pulley on a gantry behind the entrance. This building is listed for its historical connections to the Hurricane aircraft and later the Henley and Hotspur prototypes, which were built here.
