Description
The Church of St Peter, built between 1840 and 1841 by Scott and Moffat and extended in 1866, is a Commissioners' Church designed in the Norman style. It is constructed of yellow brick with white brick dressing. The church features a nave with four bays and north and south aisles, along with a square tower at the west end of the north aisle that has four stages and a three-light arcaded bell stage. There is a circular corner turret topped with a conical spirelet. The windows are round-headed with single shafted jambs. The church also includes short transepts and a two-bay chancel, which also has north and south aisles. The interior is galleried, although it has not been seen. A modern vicarage is located at the rear but is of little interest.
