Description

Dorich House is a detached house built in 1935-6 overlooking Richmond Park. Designed by the artist Dora Gordine for her own use as a sculpture studio and gallery, as well as a residence, with architectural assistance from H I Cole, the building was conceived as a sculptural object intended to be viewed from all angles, meaning it has no primary facade. The house’s plan is strongly axial and this is reflected in the symmetry of all four elevations. It is three storeys high with a roof garden. The side elevations and the southern end elevation each have three bays with projecting central sections and tall, narrow, round-headed windows on the ground and first floors. In the outer bays of the side elevations, these windows are grouped in threes and feature thermal windows on the second floor. The north elevation is almost entirely glazed on the ground and first floors to provide natural north light for the studios. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
